Coastal Cool in a Caribbean Haven
Eclectic charm, island breezes, and a client who showed up with rum cake. Read more below.
Some projects arrive as a gift. This one came in the form of a call from clients we already knew and loved, having designed their stateside home in Richmond, Virginia. When they asked us to bring that same spirit to their island abode in Exuma, Bahamas, we didn't hesitate.
BEFORE
What started as a refresh quickly became something bigger. The more we immersed ourselves in the space, the more we saw its potential, and what began as an interior refresh evolved into a complete renovation. The result is a home that whisks you away to paradise the moment you walk through the door: eclectic charm and classic elegance layered together in a way that feels completely of this place.
Designing an island retreat is a different kind of conversation. The architecture, the light, the salt air, the unhurried pace of life, all of it informs every decision. For this Exuma home, we leaned into the natural beauty surrounding it rather than competing with it. The result is a breezy, bohemian interior that feels collected over time, layered with texture, warmth, and just the right amount of ease.
There's nothing quite like an outdoor shower. Ours is unassuming, spaciously designed, and accessed directly from the primary bath — a must-have for clients who wanted to embrace every opportunity to appreciate this gorgeous island. It's the kind of detail that sounds simple but changes how you experience a home entirely.
This is coastal interior design at its most honest: no forced themes, no nautical clichés, just a home that opens its arms and makes you forget what day it is.
Exuma keeps calling us back. We sat opposite our lovely client and her daughter at the dining table and thanked our lucky stars for such inspiring, good people. That's the thing about the work we do, the homes are beautiful, but it's the relationships that stay with you.
